Chinwendu "Chinwe" Duru, PhD

Board Treasurer

Dr. Chinwendu "Chinwe" Duru (she/her) is a licensed Clinical Child Psychologist living in Austin, TX. As a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, receiving her PhD in Educational Psychology in School/Clinical Child Psychology, she focused on improving access to effective, evidence-based treatment for underserved populations through clinical work and research. Social justice and advocacy are the guiding pillars in her daily life, clinical work, and research. Through these pillars, she has provided clinical care in various settings such as schools, juvenile justice, medical centers, and private practice. She has conducted research evaluating the modifications and adaptations providers make to interventions to allow for client fit and is in the process of publishing her findings. Through her work and advocacy, she strives to provide the care that her patients deserve.

Her passion for sex education began during her time as a Human Sexuality TA, where her work with youth revealed how often nonjudgmental, accurate information was missing from the conversation. Since then, it has been her mission to provide her clients with the honest, evidence-based information they deserve, drawing on her clinical training and experience to inform how she approaches this work. This mission is what drew her to UN|HUSHED, whose values align closely with her own, and she now serves on its board to support that work and help spread its message beyond her daily clinical practice.

She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog Duke. When she is able to, she plays basketball to keep up with her skills plus she also enjoys traveling and reading.
