Christy Tashjian, CPM, WHNP

Board President

Christy Tashjian, CPM, WHNP, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in 1994 and studied midwifery while working at home health agencies.  After working as a homebirth midwife in Austin and surrounding areas for 16 years, she decided to get a master’s degree in nursing. She became a Nurse Practitioner in 2013, expanding her midwifery practice into a full spectrum women's health practice.  She worked as a midwife consultant and educator with the Austin-based Mama Sana Vibrant Woman project focusing on group pregnancy care and perinatal support for low-income people of color. Christy has also worked with and supported the LGBTQ+ community in her practices, specifically in helping with fertility and conception.  She joined the staff of Balcones Ob/Gyn for two years in 2018 to bring her varied experience in pregnancy care and women's health to a mainstream practice.   While working as a midwife, Christy was also on the board of directors of the Midwives Alliance of North America and Human Rights in Childbirth.  After residing in Austin, Texas for many years, Christy, her wife Jenni, and their 5 year old moved in 2020 to the far North to live on the shores of Lake Superior near Thunder Bay, Ontario. Currently waiting for her Canadian work permit to be processed, Christy spends much of her time outside, cross country skiing and marvelling at the snow in the winter, and hiking, gardening and being enamored with the lake out her back door in the summer.  Christy is an herb crafter, fiber creatrix, hearth keeper, forest therapy guide, and mom who continues to be interested in all aspects of healthcare related to queer folx and women, especially in regards to increasing access to holistic and edgy health information.
